About the Program

Beginning with one single resident in 1965, the Orthopedic Resident Educational Training Program of Howard University Hospital (HUH) has now grown to include 20 residents, 20 staff members and 7 affiliated hospitals. Howard University Orthopedics currently, has formal relations with six fully accredited hospitals. Most members of our staff have active privileges at two or more of our affiliated hospitals. These individuals maintain their private practices in the immediate vicinity of the community hospitals. Residents rotate through the attendings' offices, especially in those hospitals that have no outpatient clinics. In this manner, they are able to participate in the total care of patients, including preoperative planning, postoperative care, and rehabilitation. These office rotations also expose our residents to the nonsurgical aspects of orthopedic surgery.
